Job Purpose: Support children and young people with moderate, severe, and complex learning needs within the Specialist Provision Centre (SPC) at Onchan. You will help learners access education, develop independence, build confidence, and take part in school life in a safe and supportive environment.
Duties
- Support learners with classroom activities, learning tasks, and personal development.
- Help learners develop social, communication, health, hygiene, and life skills.
- Encourage positive behaviour, confidence, and independence.
- Assist with individual education, behaviour, and support plans.
- Work closely with teachers, the SPC Manager, parents/carers, and other professionals.
- Support learners during school activities, trips, and offsite visits.
- Prepare learning resources and help maintain a safe, organised learning environment.
- Record learner progress and provide feedback to teaching staff.
- Support learners with additional medical or personal care needs following training.
- Promote inclusion and equal opportunities for all learners.
- Attend training, meetings, and safeguarding sessions as required.
Essential Skills
- GCSE Maths and English at Grade C/4 or above, or equivalent Level 2 qualification.
- Experience working with children or young people.
- Ability to support learners with additional needs and disabilities.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
- Able to build positive relationships with learners and staff.
- Good organisational skills and ability to prioritise tasks.
- Positive, flexible, and caring approach.
- Commitment to safeguarding and inclusion.
- Physically able to carry out the duties of the role.
- Satisfactory police check required.
Desirable Skills
- Teaching Assistant Level 2 qualification or similar.
- Experience supporting children with autism or behavioural challenges.
- Experience with personal care or medical support duties.
- Understanding of support services available for young people.
- Ability to motivate learners and support self-esteem.
- Isle of Man worker status.
