Education Support Officer - SPC- Henry Bloom Noble Primary School - DOES-025220

Job Purpose: Support learners with moderate, severe and complex needs within the Specialist Provision Centre at Henry Bloom Noble School. You will help learners access education, develop their independence and take part in school life, while providing personal and medical care where required.  

Duties  
- Support learners with a range of learning, physical, sensory, social, emotional and behavioural needs.
- Help learners access classroom activities and become as independent as possible.
- Provide personal care and support with health, hygiene and life skills where required.
- Support learners with medical needs following appropriate training and competency assessments.
- Encourage positive behaviour, confidence and self-esteem.
- Build positive relationships with learners and act as a positive role model.
- Help develop and follow individual education, behaviour, care and support plans.
- Monitor learners' progress and provide feedback to teachers and the SPC Manager.
- Help prepare learning activities, resources and specialist equipment.
- Support learners to develop their confidence and independence using ICT.
- Provide appropriate support to learners who are distressed or experiencing difficulties.
- Support learners moving between different stages of their education or returning after an absence.
- Work with teachers and other professionals to provide individual or small-group support.
- Support learners on school visits, off-site activities and during transport.
- Build positive relationships with parents and carers.
- Follow safeguarding, health and safety, confidentiality and data protection procedures.
- Attend meetings, training and professional development activities as required.

Essential Skills
- GCSE Maths and English at Grade C/4 or above, or equivalent Level 2 qualifications.
- Experience working with children or young people of a relevant age.
- Ability to support learners with moderate, severe and complex learning difficulties or disabilities.
- Ability to contribute to individual education, behaviour, care and support plans.
- Ability to support distressed learners appropriately.
- Understanding of ways to engage learners with complex needs and remove barriers to learning.
- Ability to build positive and respectful relationships with learners, staff and other adults.
- Good teamwork skills.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Organised and able to prioritise your workload.
- Willingness to learn and develop your skills.
- Flexible, adaptable and able to use your own initiative.
- Caring, approachable and empathetic.
- Commitment to equality and inclusion.
- Enthusiastic and positive approach.
- Physically able to carry out the requirements of the role.
- Satisfactory Police Check.

Desirable Skills
- Teaching Assistant NVQ Level 2 or equivalent qualification.
- Experience supporting children's personal, health and hygiene needs.
- Experience working with autistic learners or those with significant communication or behavioural challenges.
- Ability to motivate learners and build their confidence and self-esteem.
- Understanding of support services available to children and young people.
- Isle of Man Worker status.
