Job Purpose: To support children and young people with moderate, severe, or complex learning needs within a school’s Specialist Provision Centre. You will work closely with teachers and the centre manager to help learners take part in lessons, develop life skills, and feel included in school life while ensuring their wellbeing and safety.  

Duties  
- Support pupils with additional learning needs to take part in classroom and school activities.
- Help pupils build confidence, independence, and positive relationships with others.
- Assist with personal care, wellbeing, and development of life skills where required.
- Encourage learners to engage in learning activities and follow guidance from teachers.
- Support individual learning plans and behaviour or mentoring plans.
- Work with teachers to help pupils achieve their learning goals.
- Observe and record pupils’ progress and provide feedback to teachers.
- Promote positive behaviour and help resolve conflicts in line with school policies.
- Help create a safe, organised, and supportive learning environment.
- Prepare and maintain learning materials, resources, and specialist equipment.
- Support the use of ICT and learning technology in lessons.
- Assist with small group or one-to-one learning activities.
- Support pupils during school trips, off-site activities, and enrichment activities.
- Work with teachers, parents, and other professionals to support pupil progress.
- Follow safeguarding, health and safety, confidentiality, and school policies at all times.
- Attend meetings, training, and professional development activities.
- Carry out medical or care duties following training and competency checks where required.

Essential Skills
- GCSE Maths and English (Grade A*–C / 9–4) or equivalent Level 2 qualifications.
- Experience supporting children or young people in an education or care setting.
- Ability to work as part of a team and support teachers in delivering learning activities.
- Strong communication skills with pupils, staff, and parents.
- Ability to motivate and encourage young people and support their self-esteem.
- Ability to build positive relationships and act as a role model.
- Understanding of strategies to support pupils with complex learning needs.
- Ability to work in a structured environment and follow safeguarding procedures.
- Good organisational skills and ability to prioritise workload.
- A caring, patient, and positive approach when working with children and young people.
- Ability to work flexibly and use initiative.
- Physically able to carry out the duties of the role and pass required checks.

Desirable skills
- Teaching Assistant NVQ Level 2 or equivalent qualification.
- Experience supporting pupils with complex needs or autism.
- Experience helping with personal care or medical support for pupils.
- Knowledge of school curriculum or learning programmes.
- Understanding of additional support services available for young people.
- Experience supporting pupils during transitions between school stages.
