Job Purpose: Work as part of the Education Support Team to support teaching and learning within the school, helping pupils access the curriculum, develop confidence and achieve their full potential while working closely with teachers and other school staff.
Duties
- Support pupils in accessing learning activities under the guidance of teachers and senior staff.
- Build positive relationships with pupils and encourage confidence, independence and inclusion.
- Deliver individual and small group support programmes as directed by the teacher.
- Assist teachers with lesson preparation, planning and classroom activities.
- Monitor pupils' progress and provide accurate feedback to teaching staff.
- Promote positive behaviour and help resolve conflicts in line with school policies.
- Support the delivery of literacy, numeracy and other learning programmes.
- Help pupils use ICT and specialist equipment to support learning.
- Prepare and maintain classroom resources and learning materials.
- Carry out routine administrative duties, including maintaining assessment records and photocopying.
- Work with parents, carers and other professionals where appropriate to support pupils.
- Supervise pupils during educational visits and out-of-school activities when required.
- Follow safeguarding, health and safety, confidentiality and data protection procedures at all times.
Essential Skills
- GCSE English and Maths (Grade 4/C or above) or equivalent.
- Experience working with or caring for children or young people.
- Ability to provide pastoral support and meet pupils' personal care needs where required.
- Understanding of child development and barriers to learning.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to build positive relationships with pupils and adults.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Good organisational skills and ability to use own initiative.
- Commitment to safeguarding, inclusion and equal opportunities.
- Ability to remain calm in challenging situations.
- Physically able to carry out the duties of the role.
- Satisfactory Police Check.
Desirable Skills
- Level 2 Teaching Assistant qualification or equivalent.
- Experience supporting pupils with special educational needs.
- Training in literacy or other learning strategies.
- First Aid training.
- Working knowledge of the National Curriculum and SEN assessments.
- Ability to use ICT to support learning.
- Isle of Man Worker status.
This is a limited term contract for 12 months commencing 1st September 2026.
