Job Purpose: Work as part of Ballakermeen High School's Science team, providing practical and technical support to staff and students. You will prepare and maintain science equipment and resources, help ensure practical lessons run safely and smoothly and support students with their learning. Training for specific parts of the role will be provided.  

Duties  
- Prepare science equipment, resources and materials for lessons.
- Support teachers and students during practical science activities.
- Use specialist skills, training and experience to support students.
- Monitor stock levels, catalogue resources and carry out stock audits.
- Check specialist equipment to make sure it is safe and working correctly.
- Carry out appropriate repairs or arrange for equipment to be repaired.
- Demonstrate and assist with the safe use of specialist equipment and materials.
- Maintain a safe, organised and productive working environment.
- Help ensure resources and equipment are prepared accurately and on time.
- Promote good behaviour and health and safety within the Science Faculty.
- Build positive working relationships with the Science team.
- Support equal opportunities for all students to learn and develop.
- Attend training and development activities to build knowledge and skills.
- Follow safeguarding, child protection, health and safety, security and confidentiality procedures.

Essential Skills  
- GCSE Maths and English at Grade C/4 or above, or equivalent Level 2 qualifications, and experience in a relevant discipline.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills and confidence communicating with students and staff.
- Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
- Ability to work accurately and to a high standard.
- Good problem-solving skills and ability to use initiative.
- Enthusiastic, positive and motivated approach.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a close-knit team.
- Calm and disciplined when working under pressure.
- Flexible and willing to adapt as the role develops.
- Willingness to undertake First Aid training and deal with first aid issues.
- Able to work 37 hours per week during term time plus one week during the school holidays.
- Flexible approach to working hours when required for meetings or training.
- Satisfactory police check.

Desirable Skills  
- Relevant NVQ Level 2 qualification in laboratory or technical work, or a higher-level qualification in Science or a related subject.
- Experience working with secondary school-aged children or young people.
- Experience in a practical, hands-on role and an interest in developing a career in this area.
- Good planning, organisational and time management skills.
- Knowledge of relevant policies and legislation, including safeguarding and child protection.
- Isle of Man Worker status.
