Education Support Officer - Peel Clothworkers Primary School - LTC - DOES-024893

Job Purpose: Support pupils across the school by providing academic, social and emotional support in a mainstream setting. Work closely with teachers to help pupils access learning, develop confidence and achieve their full potential, including supporting children in the Reception classroom for part of the week.  

Duties  
- Support pupils to access learning activities under the guidance of the teacher.
- Provide academic, social and emotional support for pupils.
- Assist with the development and implementation of Individual Education, Behaviour, Support and Mentoring Plans.
- Build positive relationships with pupils and act as a positive role model.
- Use a restorative approach to behaviour management.
- Participate in assessing pupils who need additional support.
- Help plan and deliver learning activities with the class teacher.
- Maintain daily records and provide feedback on pupils' progress, behaviour and attendance.
- Promote confidence, independence and positive self-esteem.
- Support an inclusive learning environment where all pupils have equal opportunities.
- Administer routine SEN assessments and undertake routine marking where appropriate.
- Supervise pupils during breaks, lunchtime (if required), educational visits and school activities.
- Attend meetings, training and professional development activities.
- Follow safeguarding, health and safety, confidentiality and data protection procedures at all times.

Essential Skills  
- GCSE English and Maths at Grade C/4 or above, or equivalent Level 2 qualifications.
- Experience working with children or young people of the relevant age.
- Experience supporting pupils with a variety of additional needs.
- Working knowledge of the National Curriculum.
- Understanding of the purpose of play and the ability to create a stimulating learning environment.
- Ability to identify personal learning needs and undertake professional development.
- Understanding of how positive links with parents support children's learning.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Warm, nurturing approach to supporting children with additional needs.
- Ability to use initiative and solve problems.
- Ability to motivate pupils and promote positive self-esteem.
- Commitment to inclusion, safeguarding and equality of opportunity.
- Satisfactory police check.

Desirable Skills  
- Teaching Assistant NVQ Level 2 or equivalent qualification.
- First Aid training.
- Experience working in an Early Years setting.
- Experience supporting outdoor learning.
- Experience using a restorative approach to behaviour management.
- Understanding of child development and learning processes.
- Ability to deliver effective support for pupils at risk of underachieving.
- Understanding of assessment procedures.
- Knowledge of programmes to support children with Additional Educational Needs.
- Isle of Man Worker status.
