Job Purpose: Support pupils aged 4–11 with additional and complex needs at Bunscoill Rhumsaa. You will work alongside teachers and the SENCO to help pupils access learning, develop their confidence and independence and take part fully in school life.  

Duties  
- Support pupils with special educational needs in the classroom and during learning activities.
- Help keep pupils safe and ensure they can access learning.
- Build positive relationships with pupils and support their individual needs.
- Help develop and follow Individual Education Plans, Behaviour Plans and Personal Care programmes.
- Encourage pupils to interact with others and take part in activities.
- Promote inclusion, confidence, self-esteem and independence.
- Support pupils to achieve their individual learning goals.
- Monitor and record pupils' progress and provide feedback to teachers.
- Encourage positive behaviour and help pupils take responsibility for their choices.
- Assist teachers with planning and preparing learning activities.
- Deliver agreed learning activities and intervention programmes.
- Support literacy, numeracy and other learning programmes.
- Help pupils develop their ICT skills and independence.
- Prepare and maintain equipment and resources for lessons.
- Support pupils with personal care where required.
- Build positive relationships with parents and carers.
- Provide basic administrative support such as photocopying, typing and filing.
- Supervise pupils outside lessons, including before and after school and at lunchtime.
- Accompany pupils and staff on school trips and activities.
- Follow safeguarding, child protection, health and safety, confidentiality and data protection procedures.

Essential Skills
- GCSE Maths and English at Grade C/4 or above, or equivalent Level 2 qualifications.
- Experience working with children aged 4–11.
- Understanding of learning intervention programmes and ability to use them appropriately.
- Up-to-date understanding, based on experience, of how children learn.
- Understanding of the importance of providing a safe and happy environment for children to learn.
- Excellent communication skills, including confidence using email and Microsoft Teams.
- Ability to build positive relationships with children and adults.
- Understanding of how good relationships with parents can support children's learning.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a classroom team.
- Commitment to teamwork, inclusion, diversity and equal opportunities.
- Flexible and adaptable approach.
- Ability to use your own initiative and remain calm in stressful situations.
- Knowledge of and commitment to safe working practices.
- Ability to follow safeguarding policies and procedures.
- Enthusiastic and positive approach.
- Satisfactory police check.

Desirable Skills
- Relevant continuing professional development or training.
- NVQ Level 2 for Teaching Assistants or an equivalent relevant qualification.
- Relevant learning strategy training, such as literacy.
- First Aid training.
- Experience providing pastoral support to pupils.
- Experience supporting pupils with personal, social, health and hygiene needs.
- Experience helping teachers and the SENCO develop and implement Individual Education Plans.
- Experience using intervention programmes to support learning.
- Experience assessing children's learning and helping identify their next steps.
- Knowledge of strategies to support children with additional needs.
- Understanding of special educational needs including ASC and ADHD.
- Previous experience liaising with Speech and Language Therapy (SaLT).
- Isle of Man Worker status.
