Job Purpose: Support children with additional needs to access the curriculum and achieve their full potential. Work closely with teachers to provide learning, behaviour, and classroom support while helping to create a safe, inclusive, and positive learning environment.  

Duties
- Support pupils, including those with additional needs, to access learning safely.
- Assist with the implementation of Individual Education, Behaviour, and Personal Care Plans.
- Build positive relationships with pupils and support their individual needs.
- Promote inclusion, independence, confidence, and self-esteem.
- Encourage pupils to participate in learning activities and work with others.
- Provide feedback to pupils on their progress under the guidance of the teacher.
- Prepare and maintain a well-organised classroom environment.
- Support teachers in planning and delivering learning activities.
- Monitor and record pupils' progress and provide feedback to teachers.
- Promote positive behaviour and help manage conflicts appropriately.
- Work with children with special educational needs on teacher-directed activities.
- Administer routine tests, invigilate exams, and undertake routine marking.
- Provide general administrative support, including photocopying, typing, filing, and handling money.
- Support literacy, numeracy, and other learning programmes.
- Help pupils develop confidence using ICT and learning resources.
- Accompany pupils on educational visits, trips, and extra-curricular activities.
- Follow safeguarding, health and safety, confidentiality, and child protection procedures at all times.

Essential Skills
- GCSE English and Maths at Grade C/4 or above, or equivalent Level 2 qualifications.
- Experience of working with, or caring for, children or young people of a relevant age.
- Experience working with children in a primary school setting.
- Experience of providing an inclusive environment for children.
- Experience of working as part of a team.
- Experience supporting pupils with special educational needs and delivering intervention strategies.
- Experience working with children with behavioural needs.
- Ability to build positive working relationships with pupils and act as a role model.
- Adaptable and able to respond to changes in the timetable.
- Knowledge of basic safeguarding procedures.
- Good behaviour management skills.
- Ability to relate well to both children and adults.
- Enthusiastic with good communication skills.
- Team player with a nurturing personality.
- Able to use own initiative.
- Positive contributor to school life.
- Reflective and innovative approach.
- Satisfactory police check.

Desirable Skills
- Teaching Assistant NVQ Level 2 or equivalent qualification.
- Ability to provide information and advice to help pupils make choices about their learning and behaviour.
- Knowledge of effective learning environments.
- Knowledge of using visual strategies to support learning.
- Ability to challenge and motivate pupils while promoting self-esteem.
- Isle of Man Worker status.

This is a limited term contract due to run until July 2027
