Education Support Officer - Andreas Primary School - LTC - DOES-024981

Job Purpose:  Support one or more pupils with their learning, helping them overcome barriers to education and achieve their full potential. Working closely with teachers and the SENCo, you will provide personalised support within the classroom while promoting confidence, independence and inclusion.  

Duties  
- Act as a key support worker for one or more pupils, including meeting and greeting them at the start of the school day.
- Support pupils' learning within the classroom, adapting activities to meet individual needs.
- Work with teachers and the SENCo to deliver personalised learning programmes.
- Assist with the assessment of pupils to identify the most appropriate support.
- Help develop and implement Individual Education, Behaviour, Support and Mentoring Plans.
- Build positive relationships with pupils and act as a positive role model.
- Encourage pupils to make positive choices about their learning, behaviour and attendance.
- Motivate pupils and promote confidence and self-esteem.
- Provide feedback on pupils' progress, achievement, behaviour and attendance.
- Support teachers with planning, evaluating and adapting learning activities.
- Help maintain pupil records and contribute to reviews of progress.
- Develop positive relationships with parents and carers to support children's learning and attendance.
- Support behaviour management strategies and pupil integration.
- Supervise pupils during school visits, trips and activities.
- Attend meetings, training and professional development activities.
- Follow safeguarding, health and safety, confidentiality and data protection procedures at all times.

Essential Skills  
- GCSE English and Maths at Grade C/4 or above, or equivalent Level 2 qualifications.
- Experience supporting learning in Key Stage 1 or Key Stage 2.
- Experience working with pupils and parents to remove barriers to learning.
- Good understanding of autism and strategies to reduce barriers to learning.
- Ability to build positive relationships with pupils, parents and colleagues.
- Up-to-date understanding of how children learn.
- Understanding of formal and informal assessment procedures.
- Ability to provide constructive feedback on pupils' progress and behaviour.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Good basic IT skills, including word processing, email and internet use.
- Commitment to team working, inclusion and equal opportunities.
- Flexible, adaptable and able to use your own initiative.
- Calm, reflective and innovative approach.
- Ability to celebrate pupils' achievements and support colleagues.
- Physically able to carry out the duties of the role.
- Satisfactory police check.

Desirable Skills  
- Teaching Assistant NVQ Level 2 or equivalent qualification.
- Relevant continuing professional development (CPD).
- Training in medical needs such as diabetes, anaphylaxis or asthma.
- First Aid qualification.
- Experience supporting pupils on the autistic spectrum.
- Experience implementing teaching and learning strategies to help pupils achieve their potential.
- Experience carrying out assessment programmes.
- Isle of Man Worker status.
