Job Purpose
As an Education Support Officer at Andreas Primary School, you will support pupils in a Year 5/6 classroom each morning, helping to remove barriers to learning and enabling children to achieve their potential. This role offers the chance to work closely with neurodiverse pupils in a friendly and supportive school environment that encourages creativity and ‘thinking outside the box’.
Duties
Support for pupils
- Act as key support worker for assigned pupils, including daily meet and greet.
- Support pupils' learning within the classroom, tailoring support to their individual needs.
- Assist with assessment and the development of personalised learning and behaviour plans.
- Motivate pupils, build self-esteem and provide constructive feedback.
Support for teachers
- Assist pupils' access to learning with appropriate strategies and resources.
- Provide feedback and reports on pupils' progress and behaviour.
- Contribute to planning, evaluating and adjusting learning activities.
- Support behaviour management strategies.
- Build constructive relationships with parents/ carers to support learning and attendance.
Support for the Curriculum
- Deliver agreed learning activities/ programmes, adjusting to pupil responses.
- Provide opportunities to broaden and enrich pupils' learning.
Support for the School
- Comply with safeguarding, child protection, health & safety, confidentiality and data protection policies.
- Contribute to the school's ethos and aims.
- Attend meetings training and professional development.
- Supervise pupils on trips and out-of-school activities.
Essential Skills & Requirements
- GCSE Maths and English at Grade C (4) or above OR equivalent Level 2 qualifications.
- NVQ Level 2 in Teaching Assistance (or equivalent qualification).
- Experience supporting learning in Key Stage 1 or 2.
- Experience supporting pupils on the Autistic Spectrum.
- Experience working with pupils and parents to remove barriers to learning.
- Understanding of autism and its impact on learning.
- Knowledge of how children learn, and of assessment procedures.
- Strong communication skills and ability to build productive relationships with pupils, parents and staff.
- Basic IT skills (Word processing, email, web browsing).
- Ability to remain calm and use initiative in stressful situations.
- Commitment to teamwork, inclusion and equal opportunities.
- Physically able to carry out the requirements of the role.
- Satisfactory police check.
Desirable Skills & Requirements
- Relevant CPD.
- Training in medical needs (e.g. diabetes, asthma, anaphylaxis).
- First Aid training.
- Experience of conducting assessment programmes.
- Experience implementing strategies that ensure pupil progress.
- Understanding of stress factors in children's learning and strategies to reduce them.
- Isle of Man worker status.
