Job Purpose: Support pupils across the school, including those with additional and complex needs, to access learning, develop confidence and independence, and achieve their full potential. Work closely with teachers to provide learning, behaviour, social, emotional and wellbeing support in a safe, inclusive and positive learning environment.
Duties
- Support pupils, including those with special educational needs, to access learning safely.
- Provide one-to-one support for a child with complex needs when required.
- Work with individuals and small groups to support learning and development.
- Assist with the implementation of Individual Education, Behaviour and Personal Care Plans.
- Build positive relationships with pupils and support their individual needs.
- Promote inclusion, confidence, independence and positive self-esteem.
- Encourage pupils to participate in learning activities and work with others.
- Support speech and language development through one-to-one and small group activities.
- Monitor and record pupils' progress and provide feedback to teachers.
- Promote positive behaviour and encourage pupils to take responsibility for their actions.
- Prepare learning resources and support the use of ICT in learning.
- Provide general administrative support including photocopying, typing, filing and coursework administration.
- Support pupils with toileting and administer medication where required.
- Supervise pupils during playtimes, lunchtimes, trips and educational visits.
- Attend meetings, training and professional development activities.
- Follow safeguarding, health and safety, confidentiality and data protection procedures at all times.
Essential Skills
- GCSE English and Maths at Grade C/4 or above, or equivalent Level 2 qualifications, and experience working with children or young people.
- Full working knowledge of relevant policies, codes of practice and legislation.
- Knowledge of programmes that support children with Additional Educational Needs.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Understanding of classroom roles and responsibilities.
- Understanding of how positive links with parents support children's learning.
- Knowledge of inclusion and curriculum differentiation within a primary school.
- Ability to relate well to children and adults.
- Innovative and reflective approach to practice.
- Enthusiastic, confident and optimistic approach.
- Warm, approachable and nurturing manner.
- Trustworthy, conscientious and self-motivated.
- Calm manner with children and colleagues.
- Positive contribution to all aspects of school life.
- Satisfactory police check.
Desirable Skills
- Teaching Assistant NVQ Level 2 or equivalent qualification.
- First Aid training.
- Experience working with pupils with additional needs.
- Experience extending children's learning beyond the classroom.
- Experience communicating with parents and other stakeholders.
- Experience providing an inclusive learning environment.
- Isle of Man Worker status.
