Job Purpose: To work as part of the Progress Zone at St Ninian’s High School, supporting students with additional and complex needs across the school. You will work under the guidance of the SENCo and teaching staff to help students feel safe, included and able to achieve their best.
Duties
- Support students with personal, social, health and wellbeing needs.
- Help students stay safe and access learning in lessons.
- Build positive relationships and act as a good role model.
- Encourage inclusion and support students to take part in class activities.
- Support students to become more independent.
- Assist teachers with behaviour management and report any concerns.
- Provide basic admin support such as photocopying, filing and collecting money.
- Help students understand instructions and use basic ICT.
- Prepare and maintain classroom resources and equipment.
- Follow safeguarding, health and safety, confidentiality and data protection policies.
- Attend meetings and training as required.
- Supervise students during break, lunchtime and before/after school if needed.
- Support school trips and out of school activities.
Essential Skills
- Experience working with or caring for children or young people.
- Ability to build positive relationships with students and staff.
- Confident working as part of a team.
- Able to motivate, challenge and encourage students.
- Good communication and basic numeracy and literacy skills.
- Understanding of safeguarding responsibilities.
- Reliable, flexible and able to use your own initiative.
- Positive attitude and commitment to supporting young people with additional and complex needs.
- Satisfactory Police Check.
Desirable skills
- GCSE Maths and English (Grade A*–C / 9–4) or Level 2 equivalent.
- Experience working in a secondary school.
- Knowledge of support strategies for students with additional needs.
- First Aid training.
- Awareness of relevant secondary school learning programmes.
- Isle of Man Worker status.
