Job Purpose: Support adults with learning disabilities and complex needs to live as independently as possible and enjoy a good quality of life. You will provide person-centred care and support through Manx Care's Adult Learning Disability Service and may work at different locations across the Island depending on the needs of the service.
Duties
- Support service users with their individual care and support needs.
- Assist with personal care, including toileting and dietary requirements.
- Encourage independence and help service users take an active part in their community.
- Follow individual support plans and person-centred programmes.
- Support the safe management of service users who may display behaviours that challenge.
- Help service users make informed choices while promoting dignity, respect and independence.
- Act as a key worker for individual service users when required.
- Contribute to Person Centred Planning meetings and agreed outcomes.
- Work with families and carers and keep them informed of relevant changes.
- Work alongside other professionals to support communication, independence and quality of life.
- Support the safe storage and administration of medication in line with procedures.
- Maintain accurate paper and electronic records, including RiO records.
- Handle service user money and activity finances in line with procedures.
- Complete relevant health and safety and incident records.
- Help maintain a safe, clean and suitable Day Service environment.
- Attend team meetings, supervision, training and development activities.
- Work flexibly and provide support in other Adult Learning Disability services when required.
- Follow safeguarding, health and safety, data protection and service procedures.
Essential Skills
- Commitment to achieving QCF Level 3 in Health and Social Care if not already attained.
- Commitment to completing all mandatory and role-specific training.
- Good written and spoken English communication skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively with families and other professionals.
- Good basic IT skills, including word processing and email.
- Ability to use your own initiative and work in difficult situations.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Flexible and able to cope with change.
- Highly motivated and person-centred.
- Understanding and appreciation of individual needs.
- Responsible and professional approach to work.
- Reliable and committed to ongoing training.
- Understanding of the importance of dignity, choice and respect.
- Full, clean manual driving licence.
- Physically able to carry out the duties of the role.
- Satisfactory police check.
Desirable Skills
- QCF Level 2 or 3, or equivalent, in Health and Social Care.
- Experience working with people with learning disabilities.
- Experience working in a support or care setting.
- Understanding of positive risk-taking.
- Isle of Man Worker status.
