Job Purpose: Provide excellent customer service by processing Social Security claims and payments accurately, supporting customers with enquiries and ensuring benefit applications are handled efficiently. You will work as part of a busy team, delivering high standards of service while maintaining confidentiality and accuracy.  

Duties
- Assess entitlement for new benefit claims and reviews.
- Calculate adjustments and arrears payments.
- Process, amend and generate benefit payments.
- Check evidence and verify the accuracy of claims.
- Request additional information and supporting documentation where required.
- Notify customers of claim decisions and outcomes.
- Maintain accurate paper and electronic records.
- Provide face-to-face support and assistance to customers at the public counter.
- Respond to enquiries from members of the public and other organisations.
- Meet individual performance targets and service standards.
- Produce and test Key Task Instructions (KTIs).
- Attend team meetings and one-to-one discussions.
- Provide cover for colleagues during periods of leave.
- Produce statistical information when required.
- Support continuous improvement by reviewing processes using LEAN principles.
- Follow health and safety, confidentiality, data protection and information governance policies at all times.

Essential Skills
- Previous experience in a customer service environment.
- Experience dealing with people in difficult circumstances.
- Excellent face-to-face, written and telephone communication skills.
- Ability to adapt communication style to meet customers' needs.
- Good organisational skills.
- Ability to work accurately and at pace under pressure.
- Resilient and calm when working to tight deadlines.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Flexible approach to work.

Desirable Skills 
- Five GCSEs at Grade C/4 or above, including English Language, or equivalent qualifications.
- Experience working in a busy office environment.
- Experience in an accounts or finance role.
- Good knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
- Logical and analytical approach to work.
- Ability to inspire, motivate and empower others.
- Isle of Man Worker status.
