Job Purpose: Assist with the building, repair and maintenance of roads, pavements, structures and other highway assets for the Department of Infrastructure. You will work as part of a team delivering highway maintenance and construction projects across the Isle of Man.  

Duties
- Assist with highway maintenance and construction projects.
- Operate construction plant and equipment safely, including excavators, dumpers, rollers, breakers and cutters.
- Carry out routine checks and maintenance on plant and equipment.
- Complete defect and maintenance logs when required.
- Prepare roads and pavements for resurfacing work.
- Help construct and repair roads, pavements and similar surfaces.
- Use tools and equipment such as compressed air breakers, trench rammers and rollers.
- Assist with trenching and laying ducts for services such as water and electricity.
- Work on tasks including drain laying, kerb laying, paving, walling and manhole construction.
- Follow health and safety procedures at all times.
- Work as part of a team to deliver high quality services.
- Take part in an on-call rota, including evenings and weekends when needed.

Essential Skills
- Knowledge of road and pavement construction.
- General construction experience.
- Good teamwork skills.
- Full valid driving licence.
- Flexible and willing to work evenings and weekends when required.
- Able to pass a satisfactory police check.

Desirable Skills
- Accredited plant operator cards such as 360 excavator or dumper.
- Street works training.
- Knowledge of risk assessments and method statements.
- Ability to read construction drawings and understand levels and cross falls.
- Calm and controlled under pressure.
- Self-reliant, resilient and decisive.
- Isle of Man Worker status.
