Job Purpose: Work as part of a team to keep the Sea Terminal clean, safe and welcoming for staff and the public, following hygiene and health and safety standards.
Duties:
- Clean designated areas to a high standard, including sweeping, tidying, vacuuming, polishing, dusting, carpet cleaning, and cleaning windows and doors.
- Clean toilets, showers and associated fittings, and empty and dispose of litter.
- Use cleaning equipment safely, including powered machines such as scrubbers, polishers, wet and dry vacuums and carpet cleaners, and clean and check equipment after use.
- Follow health and safety procedures, including reporting accidents, following risk assessments, and using chemicals correctly in line with COSHH guidance.
- Monitor work areas for obstructions, hygiene issues and health and safety concerns, and report incidents or maintenance issues promptly.
- Support basic site tasks when needed, such as security awareness, switching off lights for energy efficiency, opening and closing the site in line with procedures, and moving furniture or equipment.
- Provide cover during staff absence and busy periods, and carry out other reasonable duties for the role.
- Maintain good working relationships, confidentiality, and update the online HR system for leave and sickness when required.
- Work early and late shifts on a rota, including weekends and bank holidays, and occasionally support other departmental properties if required.
Essential Skills
- Previous cleaning experience.
- Experience using cleaning machinery and following procedures to clean and maintain it.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills with colleagues and the public.
- Able to achieve high standards of cleanliness and hygiene, and discuss cleaning priorities and equipment.
- Able to work independently and as part of a team, with flexibility and adaptability.
- Positive attitude, willing to learn, and takes pride in good performance.
- Treats others fairly, values diversity, and acts as a positive role model in the workplace.
- Discreet and able to maintain confidentiality.
- Physically able to do the role, including standing, walking, scrubbing, lifting and carrying, sometimes in awkward positions, and using noisy or vibrating equipment.
- Able to use a range of cleaning materials, including chemicals.
- Satisfactory police check.
Desirable skills
- Current First Aid Certificate.
- Knowledge of COSHH and safe chemical use.
- Able to prioritise cleaning tasks, choose suitable materials and equipment, and report equipment faults or supply needs.
- Isle of Man worker status.
- Driving licence.
