Job Purpose: Work as part of the cleaning team at Scoill Phurt Le Moirrey, helping to keep the school clean, hygienic and safe for pupils, staff and visitors. You will clean designated areas of the school, use cleaning equipment and report any maintenance, health and safety or hygiene concerns.
Duties
- Clean designated areas of the school to a high standard.
- Sweep, vacuum, mop, polish and dust floors, surfaces and other areas.
- Clean windows and door glass.
- Clean toilets, showers and associated fittings.
- Empty bins and dispose of rubbish appropriately.
- Use cleaning equipment such as polishing and scrubbing machines, wet and dry vacuum cleaners and carpet shampooers.
- Clean and maintain equipment after use, including changing filters and bags.
- Use and store cleaning products safely.
- Follow health and safety procedures, including COSHH guidance and risk assessments.
- Identify and report maintenance faults, hazards and hygiene concerns.
- Help keep work areas clear from obstructions.
- Assist with moving furniture and equipment when required.
- Help with opening or closing the site when required.
- Support energy efficiency by switching off lights and equipment when appropriate.
- Provide cover for other members of the cleaning team when required.
- Maintain good working relationships with colleagues, pupils, staff and members of the public.
- Maintain confidentiality and follow safeguarding procedures.
Essential Skills
- Previous experience working in a cleaning role.
- Experience using different types of cleaning machinery on a range of surfaces and cleaning the equipment after use.
- Good interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to communicate appropriately with colleagues, children and parents.
- Ability and desire to maintain high standards of cleanliness.
- Ability to work independently without direct supervision and as part of a team.
- Flexible and adaptable approach.
- Positive attitude and willingness to undertake training and learn new skills.
- Reliable and able to take pride in completing work to a high standard.
- Commitment to treating everyone fairly and respectfully.
- Understanding of the importance of working appropriately around children and being a positive role model.
- Discreet and able to maintain confidentiality.
- Physically able to carry out the role, including standing, walking, scrubbing, lifting and carrying.
- Able to work with a wide range of cleaning materials, including chemicals.
- Satisfactory police check.
Desirable Skills
- Current First Aid Certificate.
- Knowledge of health and safety requirements for cleaning, including COSHH.
- Ability to prioritise cleaning tasks and choose appropriate materials and equipment.
- Isle of Man Worker status.
