Job Purpose: Work as part of the school facilities team to keep Ramsey Grammar School clean, safe and well-presented. You will help maintain high standards of hygiene across the school and support a positive environment for students, staff and visitors.
Duties
- Clean designated areas of the school including classrooms, corridors, toilets and shared spaces.
- Sweep, vacuum, dust, polish and tidy school areas to maintain high standards of cleanliness.
- Wash surfaces, clean windows and remove rubbish from bins and litter points.
- Clean toilets, showers and other sanitary facilities.
- Use cleaning equipment and machinery such as vacuum cleaners, polishing machines and scrubbing machines safely.
- Maintain cleaning equipment by changing bags, filters or brush heads when needed.
- Report any maintenance issues or damage noticed while cleaning.
- Follow health and safety rules and use cleaning chemicals safely.
- Lock classrooms and close windows when required as part of end-of-day routines.
- Support the school’s energy-saving practices and help keep the site secure.
- Work closely with colleagues and the Site Manager to maintain a clean and welcoming environment.
- Help with deeper cleaning during school holiday periods when required.
Essential Skills
- Previous experience in a cleaning role or similar practical work.
- Good attention to detail and pride in keeping areas clean and tidy.
- Ability to follow health and safety guidelines and hygiene standards.
- Good communication skills and ability to work well with staff and others in the school.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Flexible and reliable approach to work.
- Physically able to carry out cleaning duties.
- Positive attitude and willingness to learn new skills or cleaning methods.
- Professional behaviour and commitment to the school’s values.
- Ability to communicate effectively with colleagues, students and visitors.
Desirable skills
- Experience working in a school or education environment.
- Knowledge of COSHH or safe use of cleaning chemicals.
- Experience using mechanical cleaning equipment.
- Current First Aid certificate.
-Driving licence.
- Isle of Man worker status.
