Job Purpose: Work as part of a team with the Site Manager/Caretaker and QEII High School staff to clean designated areas to a high standard of cleanliness and hygiene, helping keep the site safe for students, staff and the public.

Duties
- Clean assigned areas, including washing, sweeping, vacuuming, polishing and dusting.
- Clean windows/door glass, and maintain cleaning equipment such as brush heads, filters and bags.
- Empty and remove litter and waste for disposal.
- Clean toilets, showers and associated fittings.
- Use powered cleaning equipment where appropriate, following training.
- Follow Health & Safety policies and safe working practices, including correct use and storage of cleaning products and awareness of COSHH.
- Complete a risk assessment before starting potentially hazardous tasks.
- Maintain personal hygiene and wear suitable clothing and footwear.
- Monitor work areas for obstructions and report hygiene, Health & Safety or maintenance issues.
- Take appropriate action in incidents by notifying the manager, supervisor or senior staff.
- Report maintenance faults or defects identified during duties.
- Support site energy efficiency, such as switching off lights.
- Assist with site security as required, including opening and closing the site in line with procedures.
- Help with moving furniture or equipment when required.
- Provide additional cover across caretaking and cleaning services when needed.
- Work flexibly as part of a team and maintain good working relationships and confidentiality.
- Follow safeguarding responsibilities and report any concerns to the designated Child Protection Officer.

Essential Skills
- Previous experience in a cleaning role.
- Experience and knowledge of using cleaning machinery for different surfaces and maintaining equipment after use.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact appropriately with colleagues and children.
- Ability and commitment to maintain high standards of cleanliness and hygiene.
- Able to work independently and as part of a team, with flexibility and adaptability.
- Willingness to undertake training and apply new skills.
- Positive attitude and pride in delivering a quality service.
- Commitment to equal opportunities and treating others fairly and respectfully.
- Respect for diversity and the ability to work in a caring and supportive manner.
- Ability to complete tasks without direct supervision when required.
- Understanding of working sensitively around children and acting as a positive role model.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Physically able to carry out the role, including standing, walking, lifting, carrying and using cleaning equipment.
- Able to work with a range of cleaning materials, including chemicals.
- Satisfactory police check.

Desirable skills
- Current First Aid Certificate.
- Knowledge of Health & Safety practices and COSHH relating to cleaning products.
- Ability to prioritise cleaning tasks, select appropriate materials and equipment, and report issues to a supervisor.
- Isle of Man Worker.
