Job Purpose: Actively assist in delivering an efficient and effective retail and food service for Government staff, in line with departmental standards and procedures.  

The Duties  
- Assist with the preparation, presentation and service of food and drink products to canteen users.
- Set up service counters, take customer orders, clear tables, and support daily cleaning tasks.
- Prepare and display products for the resale area.
- Operate a computerised till system and handle cash takings in line with financial regulations and end-of-day processes.
- Support stock monitoring, rotation and control to reduce waste and maintain availability.
- Open and close the area and help maintain security of the canteen/servery.
- Maintain high standards of hygiene, food safety and cleanliness across all areas and equipment (including washing up).
- Liaise with the Cook Supervisor to ensure allergen information is accurate and compliant with Natasha’s Law.
- Report equipment/fabric defects and any incidents or concerns in line with procedures.
- Answer the servery phone politely and handle customer requests, including advance orders given orally or in writing.
- Work flexibly as part of the team and carry out other duties appropriate to the role when required (including deputising for the Cook Supervisor when needed).

Essential Skills
- Experience cooking for a medium sized canteen.
- Good communication skills (verbal and written) with the ability to deal with a wide range of people professionally and discreetly.
- Ability to work as part of a team and also without supervision when required.
- Ability to work well under pressure in a busy environment.
- Good organisational skills and self-organisation.
- Awareness of the need for confidentiality.
- Self-motivated, reliable, diplomatic and tactful.
- Ability to adapt to change and awareness of personal limitations.
- Positive, respectful and professional approach, with flexibility to cover operational hours.
- Satisfactory police check (pre-employment).

Desirable skills
- GCSEs or relevant experience.
- Basic Food Hygiene Certificate.
- Experience in a catering and customer service role.
- Isle of Man Worker status.
- Current valid driving licence with access to own vehicle.
- Knowledge/awareness of HACCP and COSHH standards.
