Job Purpose: To deliver fun, safe and high-quality swimming lessons for children and adults using the National Plan for Teaching Swimming, helping learners build confidence and skills while supporting an efficient and professional swim programme.
Duties
- Plan and deliver swimming lessons for children and/or adults.
- Prepare lesson plans, assessment sheets and individual progress records.
- Organise and manage classes effectively.
- Assess swimmers and recommend them for appropriate awards.
- Record attendance and monitor progress at the start and end of programmes.
- Meet agreed targets and standards.
- Encourage participation and positive feedback from swimmers and parents.
- Follow normal and emergency operating procedures at all times.
- Support and work closely with other teachers to maintain high standards.
- Provide on-the-job guidance to assistant swim teachers.
- Prepare and store equipment safely.
- Complete required training and take part in ongoing professional development.
- Follow health & safety, safeguarding, child protection and customer care procedures.
- Maintain the required rescue test standard and fitness level.
- Promote a positive public image and provide great customer service.
- Wear the provided uniform and name badge while on duty.
- Be available to work evenings and weekends.
Essential Skills
- Swim England Level 2 Award and Certificate.
- Swim England Teacher’s Certificate Level 1 (current version) or working towards.
- Strong knowledge of swim teaching techniques and practices.
- Good understanding of health & safety in pools.
- Ability to plan lessons and organise groups confidently.
- Able to assess individual needs and track progress.
- Confident communicator with children, adults and parents.
- Friendly, patient and professional approach.
- Able to pass an Enhanced Police Check.
Desirable Skills
- Additional swim teaching awards (e.g. preschool, adult, aqua aerobics).
- Membership of the Institute of Swimming (or willing to gain within 6 months).
- Child protection and equity training (or willing to complete).
- Experience working with people with disabilities.
- IOM Worker status.
