Job Purpose: Help keep Scoill Vallajeelt clean, safe, secure and well maintained. You will oversee the day-to-day work of the cleaning team, carry out basic maintenance and repairs, manage cleaning supplies and help make sure the school meets health and safety requirements.  

Duties  
- Supervise cleaning staff and organise their day-to-day work.
- Arrange cover for holidays and sickness and maintain staff attendance records.
- Organise training and help with recruitment of cleaning staff when required.
- Order cleaning materials and supplies within agreed budgets.
- Check deliveries and make sure cleaning materials are stored safely.
- Monitor stock levels and order supplies when required.
- Help keep the school clean, including internal areas, footpaths, play areas, gullies and drains.
- Carry out cleaning duties when required, including sweeping, vacuuming, polishing and cleaning toilets and windows.
- Use and maintain powered cleaning equipment safely.
- Carry out basic maintenance and repairs to the building, fixtures, fittings and furniture.
- Carry out minor decorating and replace items such as lamps and plugs when required.
- Report building defects and maintenance problems.
- Move furniture and equipment when required.
- Carry out regular health and safety checks and report hazards or defects.
- Follow COSHH guidance and make sure machinery, chemicals and cleaning products are used and stored safely.
- Liaise with contractors and help ensure they follow site health and safety requirements.
- Check and test the fire alarm system and maintain appropriate records.
- Maintain the security of the school and act as a key and alarm code holder.
- Operate CCTV where required in line with data protection requirements.
- Make sure the school is open and ready for use each day.
- Support school lettings and evening activities when required.
- Maintain accurate records including fire alarm logs, stock records and timesheets.
- Follow safeguarding procedures and maintain confidentiality.

Essential Skills  
- Understanding of the importance of site security, cleanliness and hygiene.
- Understanding of building management systems, including fire and security alarms.
- Experience cleaning different areas and using appropriate cleaning equipment and materials.
- Understanding of basic site hazards and the safe use and storage of machinery and chemicals.
- Awareness of workplace health and safety requirements.
- Ability to organise staff rotas, order materials and complete basic paperwork and reports.
- Experience leading and supervising a team on a day-to-day basis.
- Ability to use your own initiative and work without direct supervision.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Good interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to communicate appropriately with colleagues, children and parents.
- Flexible and adaptable approach.
- Positive attitude and willingness to undertake training and learn new skills.
- Commitment to maintaining high standards.
- Ability to motivate and support other members of the team.
- Understanding of the importance of being a positive role model when working around children.
- Discreet and able to maintain confidentiality.
- Physically able to carry out the role, including standing, walking, scrubbing, lifting and carrying.
- Able to work with a wide range of cleaning materials, including chemicals.
- Satisfactory police check.

Desirable Skills  
- Five GCSEs at Grade C/4 or above, including Maths and English.
- Current First Aid Certificate.
- Previous experience working in a caretaking or cleaning role.
- Relevant qualifications such as Health and Safety, COSHH, PAT Testing or Working at Height.
- Isle of Man Worker status.
