Caretaker - Manor Park Primary School - DOES-024769

Job Purpose: Ensure the school is clean, safe, secure and well maintained by carrying out caretaking, cleaning and minor maintenance duties, supervising cleaning staff and helping provide a safe and welcoming environment for pupils, staff and visitors.   

Duties   
- Supervise the day-to-day work of the cleaning team, including organising rotas and cover arrangements.
- Maintain high standards of cleanliness and hygiene throughout the school buildings and grounds.
- Carry out cleaning duties when required, including classrooms, toilets, corridors and external areas.
- Undertake minor building maintenance, repairs and redecoration.
- Carry out porterage duties and move furniture and equipment as required.
- Monitor stock levels and order cleaning materials and supplies.
- Ensure the safe storage and use of cleaning chemicals and equipment.
- Carry out regular health and safety inspections and report maintenance issues.
- Test fire alarm systems, maintain records and assist with emergency procedures.
- Open, secure and monitor the school site, acting as a key holder and alarm code holder.
- Monitor CCTV systems and liaise with contractors working on site.
- Complete records, timesheets, accident logs and other required paperwork.
- Assist with school lettings and provide additional cover at other sites when required.

Essential Skills  
- Understanding of site security, cleanliness and hygiene requirements.
- Knowledge of health and safety procedures and safe working practices.
- Experience using cleaning equipment, machinery and materials safely.
- Ability to organise workloads, supervise staff and use initiative.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Good organisational and IT skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.
- Reliable, adaptable and self-motivated.
- Positive attitude and willingness to undertake training.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and act as a positive role model around children.
- Physically able to carry out manual duties, including lifting, carrying, walking and standing for extended periods.
- Ability to work safely with cleaning chemicals.
- Satisfactory Police Check.

Desirable Skills  
- Five GCSEs (Grade 4/C or above), including English and Maths.
- Current First Aid Certificate.
- Previous caretaking or cleaning experience.
- Qualifications in Health and Safety, COSHH, PAT Testing, Working at Height or similar.
- Isle of Man Worker status.
