Job Purpose: Support the smooth running of cancer services by organising meetings, tracking patient progress, and managing important data to help improve patient care and experience.
Duties
- Organise and attend cancer multidisciplinary team (MDT) meetings, including setting up rooms and taking accurate notes on decisions.
- Collect and update patient information on systems such as the Somerset Cancer Register.
- Track patients through their cancer journey, making sure timelines and targets are met.
- Spot and report any delays or issues to managers and clinical teams.
- Communicate clearly with healthcare staff, both inside and outside the organisation.
- Provide updates and reports on patient progress when needed.
- Build positive working relationships with colleagues across teams.
- Support and train new team members when required.
- Help cover team duties during staff absence and learn new processes where needed.
- Work flexibly in a fast-paced environment where priorities can change quickly.
Essential Skills
- Good level of education (including English and Maths).
- Strong organisational skills and ability to prioritise tasks.
- Confident using IT systems such as Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to work accurately with data and maintain attention to detail.
- Able to work independently and as part of a team.
- Calm under pressure and able to manage competing demands.
- Reliable, professional, and able to handle sensitive information confidentially.
Desirable Skills
- Experience working in an office or admin role.
- Experience in healthcare or medical administration.
- Understanding of cancer services or terminology.
- Experience using patient databases or the Somerset Cancer Register.
- Experience taking minutes in meetings.
- Experience handling sensitive or confidential data.
- Experience working with a range of stakeholders or customers.
