Bank Hospital Porter

Job Purpose: Work as part of the portering team at Noble’s Hospital, helping patients, staff and visitors and providing an efficient and professional service. You will transport patients, equipment and supplies around the hospital and assist with security and emergency duties when required.   

Duties  
- Transport patients safely between wards and departments using beds, trolleys and wheelchairs.
- Move patients' belongings, equipment, furniture, health records and other items around the hospital.
- Provide security support and respond to incidents involving aggression or violence.
- Transport deceased patients to the mortuary and complete the required documentation.
- Collect and transport medical gases, waste, dirty linen and other supplies.
- Connect and disconnect medical gas cylinders following the correct procedures.
- Collect and deliver pharmacy bags, medicines and urgent specimens, including blood samples.
- Clean wheelchairs and trolleys between patient moves.
- Carry out general portering duties including food trolley distribution, furniture moves and hanging curtains.
- Carry out vehicle checks and report any faults or concerns.
- Keep equipment and machinery clean and in good working order.
- Respond promptly to calls for assistance and prioritise jobs when necessary.
- Attend fire and emergency calls and assist during major incidents.
- Follow infection control, health and safety and security procedures.
- Maintain patient privacy, dignity and confidentiality at all times.
- Attend mandatory and role-specific training.

Essential Skills  
- Previous experience providing excellent customer service.
- Good interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
- Good computer skills, including Microsoft Office.
- Reliable and able to work effectively as part of a small team.
- Ability to take responsibility for completing work to a high standard.
- Ability to assist during emergencies and support the safe evacuation of patients.
- Willingness to undertake mandatory and role-specific training.
- Caring nature and flexible approach to work.
- Resilient and able to deal effectively with difficult situations.
- Discreet and professional when dealing with patients and medical staff.
- Isle of Man Worker status.
- Full, valid driving licence.
- Physically able to carry out the role, including moving and handling, control and restraint and assisting in emergencies.
- Satisfactory police check.

Desirable Skills  
- Previous experience working in a hospital or another service providing patient care.
