Job Purpose: Work as part of the healthcare team to support and care for patients under the direction of a Registered Practitioner. You will help patients with their everyday care needs, carry out basic clinical tasks following training and provide friendly, respectful and compassionate support.
Duties
- Support patients with everyday activities including eating, drinking, personal and oral hygiene and toileting.
- Help move and handle patients safely using appropriate equipment.
- Support patients' emotional, cultural and spiritual needs.
- Provide support and care for seriously ill and dying patients and their families.
- Take and record basic observations including blood pressure, pulse, temperature, breathing rate and oxygen levels.
- Measure and record patients' fluid intake and output.
- Collect urine samples and carry out basic urine testing.
- Carry out agreed clinical procedures following appropriate training and under the direction of a Registered Practitioner.
- Assist with simple wound dressings, skin care and pressure area care following training.
- Measure and record patients' height, weight and BMI.
- Assist with nutritional assessments following training.
- Escort medically stable patients to other departments and approved activities.
- Maintain accurate written records of the care provided.
- Communicate appropriately with patients, relatives and healthcare professionals.
- Maintain patients' privacy, dignity and confidentiality.
- Clean, store and maintain equipment correctly.
- Help maintain and rotate ward stock and supplies.
- Follow infection control procedures and help maintain a safe and clean environment.
- Attend induction, mandatory training and ongoing development.
- Work flexibly and respond to changing patient needs and emergency admissions.

Desirable Skills
- NVQ Level 2 in Health and Social Care or equivalent knowledge and skills.
- Previous experience caring for sick people.
- Basic IT skills.
- Isle of Man Worker status.
