Job Purpose: To support the Acute Care Pharmacy team by managing medicines deliveries, updating stock systems, helping dispense medicines, supporting aseptic services and making sure wards and departments receive the medicines they need safely and on time.
Duties
- Be the first point of contact for medicines deliveries and check items against orders and delivery notes.
- Record goods accurately on the pharmacy computer system and store them correctly.
- Liaise with suppliers to resolve delivery issues and report concerns to senior staff.
- Support dispensing by picking, packing and labelling medicines under supervision.
- Reconstitute medicines and prepare compliance devices as required.
- Hand out and receive prescriptions at the pharmacy hatch.
- Respond to routine enquiries from patients, staff and the public, referring complex queries when needed.
- Support the Aseptic Unit by cleaning work areas, monitoring temperatures and pressures, rotating stock and preparing trays for manufacture.
- Record batch numbers and expiry dates for vaccines and unlicensed medicines.
- Manage ward top-up services by checking and replenishing stock levels.
- Safely handle, store and transport medicines across the hospital.
- Monitor fridge, freezer and storage temperatures and report issues.
- Assist with returns, destruction of expired stock and filing of paperwork.
- Help prepare and despatch pharmacy goods to other sites.
- Maintain security of the department, including checking identity before allowing access.
- Assist in training new and bank staff.
- Take part in weekend and bank holiday rotas.
- Follow all Standard Operating Procedures, health and safety guidance and confidentiality rules.
Essential Skills
- 4 GCSEs (or equivalent) including Maths and English at grade C (4) or above and/or NVQ Level 2 in Pharmacy Services.
Experience using computer systems and applications.
- Good organisational skills and ability to prioritise work.
- Ability to work accurately and under pressure.
- Ability to work independently within guidelines.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work as part of a team.
- Ability to safely handle heavy or hazardous goods.
- Commitment to person-centred service and positive team working.
- Self-motivated with interest in learning and development.
- Satisfactory Police Check.
Desirable Skills
- Experience dealing with patients or difficult queries.
- Experience in pharmacy, stock control or similar environments.
- Isle of Man Worker status.
- Ability to support and train new staff.
