Job Purpose: Assist the Head Chef with preparing, cooking and serving nutritious meals and snacks for people using the Dementia Care and Support Service at Reayrt Skyal. You will help maintain high standards of food safety and hygiene and take responsibility for running the kitchen when the Head Chef is absent.  

Duties  
- Prepare, cook and serve up to three meals a day for service users and occasionally staff.
- Ensure meals meet individual dietary, cultural and nutritional needs.
- Cater for specialist diets, food allergies, different food textures and swallowing difficulties.
- Take responsibility for managing food allergens when preparing meals.
- Order food and supplies from approved suppliers within agreed budgets.
- Check deliveries for quality, quantity, damage and use-by dates.
- Store food safely and follow correct stock rotation procedures.
- Maintain high standards of food hygiene and kitchen cleanliness.
- Follow HACCP, COSHH and other food safety and health and safety procedures.
- Carry out kitchen audits and maintain accurate records.
- Check kitchen equipment and report faults or arrange replacements when required.
- Take responsibility for running the kitchen when the Head Chef is not on duty.
- Manage kitchen rotas and arrange staff cover when required.
- Adapt menus when supplies or other circumstances change.
- Follow appropriate financial procedures for ordering, invoices and stock management.
- Respond appropriately to emergencies and complaints.
- Attend meetings, supervision and mandatory training.
- Support other areas of the service when required.

Essential Skills
- Willingness to achieve an RQF Level 2 qualification in Catering within two years.
- Willingness to complete mandatory training and continuing professional development, including Food Hygiene Level 3.
- Experience working in a commercial kitchen.
- Awareness of food safety legislation.
- Good spoken and written English.
- Ability to manage a team when the Head Chef is absent.
- Knowledge of health and safety and environmental health requirements within a kitchen.
- Good IT skills.
- Knowledge of food hygiene and safety standards.
- Good understanding of HACCP and risk assessments.
- Knowledge of nutrition, specialist diets and food allergies.
- Ability to maintain accurate records.
- Good interpersonal and teamworking skills.
- Ability to use initiative and work independently.
- Calm and resilient under pressure.
- Good organisational and time management skills.
- Reliable, self-motivated and flexible.
- Professional and respectful approach.
- Able to travel to different locations across the Island when required.
- Able to work varied hours, including weekends and bank holidays.
- Physically able to carry out the duties of the role.
- Satisfactory police check.

Desirable Skills  
- Level 2 catering qualification such as NVQ, RQF or equivalent.
- Isle of Man Worker status.
