Job Purpose: To support older people, including those with complex needs such as dementia, to enjoy meaningful activities, stay independent for longer and feel valued within their community. You will work as part of the Older People’s Day Service, helping deliver high quality care and support across the Isle of Man.
Duties
- Support up to 15 service users per day at a Day Centre or out in the community.
- Plan and take part in social, recreational and community activities.
- Encourage independence by supporting people to make choices and do things for themselves where possible.
- Provide personal care respectfully and with dignity, including support with hygiene and continence where required.
- Act as a keyworker and support person-centred planning meetings.
- Work alongside families, carers and other professionals to ensure the best outcomes.
- Escort service users on the minibus and ensure their safety when collecting and dropping off.
- Monitor wellbeing and report any changes to the Day Centre Manager.
- Support safe storage and administration of medication in line with policy.
- Complete accurate paper and electronic records.
- Take part in team meetings, supervision and ongoing training.
- Follow health and safety guidance and respond appropriately in emergencies.
- Be flexible to work at different centres across the Island if required.
Essential Skills
- Good communication skills (written and verbal).
- Basic IT skills (e.g. Word and Outlook).
- Ability to work independently and deal with emergencies.
- Ability to work well as part of a team.
- Reliable, trustworthy and professional.
- Positive, caring and person-centred approach.
- Respect for dignity, choice and individual needs.
- Willingness to complete the Care Certificate (if not already achieved).
- Willingness to work towards RQF Level 3 qualification.
- Physically able to meet the demands of the role.
- Satisfactory Police Check.
Desirable skills
- Basic First Aid.
- Moving and Handling training.
- Dementia Awareness training.
- Experience supporting vulnerable or older people, including those with complex needs.
- Ability to communicate effectively with families and professionals.
- Isle of Man Worker status.
