Job Purpose: To support older people attending the Day Centre by providing social, recreational and personal care support in a friendly, person-centred way. You will help people stay independent for longer, enjoy meaningful activities and social time, and give carers an important break from their caring role. You may work at different Day Centres across the Isle of Man depending on service needs.
Duties
- Support service users with day-to-day activities, promoting independence by doing tasks with them rather than for them.
- Plan and take part in fun, stimulating activities in the centre and out in the community.
- Provide respectful personal care, including support with hygiene and continence where required.
- Support people with complex needs, including dementia and mobility difficulties.
- Escort service users on the minibus, including pick-ups and drop-offs.
- Monitor wellbeing and report any changes to the Day Centre Manager.
- Keep accurate paper and electronic records in line with policy.
- Support medication administration in line with procedures.
- Work closely with families, carers and other professionals.
- Attend team meetings, reviews and training sessions.
- Follow health and safety guidance and respond appropriately in emergencies.
Essential Skills
- Good communication skills, written and spoken English.
- Basic IT skills (e.g. Word and Outlook).
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Able to respond calmly in emergencies.
- Reliable, trustworthy and professional.
- Positive attitude and respectful of dignity, choice and independence.
- Physically able to meet the demands of the role.
- Willing to complete the Care Certificate and work towards RQF Level 3 if not already achieved.
- Satisfactory Police Check.
- Desirable Skills
- Basic First Aid.
- Moving and Handling training.
- Dementia Awareness training.
- Experience supporting vulnerable people in a community or residential setting.
- Experience supporting older people with complex needs such as dementia or stroke.
- Ability to communicate effectively with families and professionals.
- Isle of Man Worker status.
This is a limited term contract for 12 months covering maternity leave.
