Trainee Compliance Officer

Taking on risk in the expectation of reward is a fundamental part of our business. Our Risk Strategy is to implement and embed a proportionate and commercially attuned risk management framework in all of the businesses in the IFGL Group (the Group). Our framework enables the Board and Senior Management to address adverse risks and exploit business opportunities as they arise; and helps to facilitate the achievement of the strategic objectives in the 5 year Business Plan without taking on risk in excess of our stated Risk Appetite.

As a trainee IFGL Regulatory Compliance Officer you will provide support and advice on the identification and management of regulatory compliance risks across the IFGL companies.

The role will allow the individual to gain experience across the Financial Crime team, Regulatory Compliance team and Assurance and Monitoring team and may include secondments to other departments such as Group Legal, Group Risk and the AML Team in line 1, where relevant and appropriate. This wide range of experience will allow the individual to gain knowledge and skills in a number of areas with the opportunity to specialise in a particular area over time. The role will include the opportunity to work towards Professional Qualifications with the ICA.

Key Contribution: Regulatory Compliance

• Assisting the Chief Compliance Officer and Heads of Compliance in ensuring the business complies with legislation and regulatory requirements in the jurisdictions of operation.
• Manage the compliance in-box providing prompt and timely responses to stakeholders identifying where additional training to the business may be required.
• Maintain registers for breaches, complaints and Gifts & Entertainment.
• Prepare responses to complaints referred to the Isle of Man Financial Services Ombudsman.
• Develops and maintains a suite of procedures to support the wider compliance team

Key Contribution: Financial Crime

• Assist with maintenance of suspicion, enquiry and high-risk client registers.
• Review internal suspicion reports and make recommendations to the MLRO or DMLRO regarding reporting to the Financial Intelligence Unit.
• Review high risk clients annually and when there is a trigger event.
• Develops and maintains a suite of procedures to support the wider financial crime team.

Key Contribution: Assurance and Monitoring

• Assisting and completing Compliance Assurance Reviews, supporting the Compliance Assurance and Change Lead Manager in delivery of the Compliance Assurance Annual Programme.
• Planning, performing and reporting Compliance Assurance Reports, working across the business with various departments and branches.
• Maintains professional scepticism and a questioning mind when performing assurance reviews whilst supporting the business in completing resulting actions.
• Develops and maintains the Compliance Assurance Methodology to support the Compliance Assurance and Change Lead.

To ensure that this role is carried out to the desired level, the successful candidate should have the following skills and experience:

• Ideally educated to degree level / candidates with strong A Level results will also be considered
• Interested in starting a career in compliance
• Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Office including Excel, Word and PowerPoint
• Willing to work towards relevant compliance qualifications
• Good oral and written communication skills
• Organised with high attention to detail
• Team player
