Main Purpose: To ensure the safety of children and other pedestrians crossing the road during school times by stopping traffic and managing road crossing points.
Key Responsibilities:
- Stop traffic to help pedestrians cross safely.
- Supervise children waiting to cross.
- Follow the rules in the School Crossing Patrol Handbook.
- Wear and maintain uniform and equipment.
- Report any incidents or faults (e.g. lights/signs not working).
- Use cones or grit to improve safety in poor weather.
- Perform any related duties as directed.
Essential Skills & Qualities:
- Good observation and awareness.
- Able to judge safe gaps in traffic.
- Able to complete basic forms and use a computer (training provided).
- Reliable and punctual.
- Able to work independently after training.
- Physically fit – able to move quickly, stand for long periods, and work in all weather.
- Friendly and confident when dealing with the public.
- Must pass an Enhanced DBS check.
Desirable Skills & Qualities:
- Experience working with children or the public.
- Access to a mobile phone and email.
- Isle of Man Worker status.
