Salary: £8,287.41 on call allowance plus additional fees for training sessions, courses and fire calls
Hours Per Week: 3 training hours per week plus 120 hours standby (110 hour and 100 hour contracts can be requested)

The Isle of Man Fire and Rescue Service has opened applications for On Call Retained Firefighters to join a talent pool for their teams across the Isle of Man. We are creating a talent pool for the following stations:

*  Rushen
*  Peel
*  Kirk Michael
*  Ramsey
*  Laxey 

About the role: You will work with, and within, the community to prevent emergencies occurring, minimise their impact when they do, and to respond effectively when required within a safe working environment. This post will require you to act as an integral part of an operational firefighting and emergency response team to protect people and property from fire and other hazards in the most competent and effective manner, to the highest possible standard of care and quality.

You will respond swiftly and safely to all emergency calls and requests for assistance, and deal with emergencies as directed whilst working effectively and efficiently as a member of a disciplined team.

As a member of the Isle of Man Fire and Rescue Service, Firefighters will be required to demonstrate by example, action the behaviours that are detailed within The National Firefighter Selection Personal Qualities and Attributes, and meet the essential criteria of the Person Specification associated with this role.

Things to note:
All Retained Firefighters must live within 2 miles of, or within the town boundary of their chosen fire station.
A full driving licence is required to become a qualified Firefighter and access to your own vehicle would be desirable for this post.
An enhanced police check is required for this post, which the Isle of Man Government will cover the cost of for you.

Important Dates

Come and Try it sessions - This is an opportunity to try the bleep test, wear a BA set and try rolling out and making up hose. It’s also an opportunity to look at some of the other tests such as the pump assembly test. The Come and Try It Sessions will be held at Douglas Fire Station on Monday 27th January 2025 and Thursday 13th February 2025 between 6:15pm and 8pm, with a female only Come and Try It Session on Tuesday 4th February 2025, also between 6:15pm and 8pm.

National Firefighter Ability Test - If you need to sit the National Firefighter Ability Test, this will be held between 6-9.30pm on Tuesday 4th March, Wednesday 5th March and Thursday 6th March 2025 at Castletown & Malew Fire Station. The Come and Try It Sessions will help you understand the test more if you have any concerns or questions.

Physical Assessments - These will be held during the week commencing Monday 17th March 2025 at Douglas Fire Station.

Aptitude Tests - These will be held on either Saturday 5th April or Sunday 6th April 2025 at Douglas Fire Station.

Interview Dates - The interviews will be the week commencing Monday 21st April 2025.
