Job Purpose: Support the care of patients with mental health conditions by helping with daily activities, monitoring wellbeing, and assisting the healthcare team. Work includes both physical and emotional support and may take place on wards or in the community.
Key Duties:
- Support nurses with assessing and delivering care to patients.
- Encourage patient independence and participation in recovery activities.
- Accompany patients to appointments and community events.
- Help with personal care (washing, dressing, eating, etc.).
- Monitor and report physical and emotional changes in patients.
- Record accurate notes and observations.
- Follow safety, confidentiality, and mental health policies.
- Respond appropriately to emergencies or challenging behaviours.
Essential Skills & Requirements:
- Good spoken and written English.
- Able to work as part of a team and on own initiative.
- Basic literacy and hygiene skills.
- Physically fit for moving patients and shift work (incl. nights/weekends).
- Calm and empathetic in challenging situations.
- Willing to train and work towards NVQ Level 2 in Health & Social Care.
- Willingness to learn and follow instructions.
Desirable Skills & Qualifications:
- NVQ/QCF Level 2 in Health & Social Care.
- Experience in mental health or care settings.
- Full, valid driving licence and own transport.
- Interest in patient activities (e.g. games, crafts).
- Isle of Man Worker status.
