Key Responsibilities
Support for Students:
Personal Care: Attend to personal needs, including social, health, physical, hygiene, first aid, and welfare.
Supervision: Ensure students' safety and support their access to learning.
Relationship Building: Establish good relationships, act as a role model, and promote inclusion.
Encouragement: Motivate students to interact, engage in activities, and act independently when appropriate.
Support for Teachers:
Progress Monitoring: Report students' problems, progress, and achievements to teachers.
Behaviour Management: Assist in managing student behaviour and provide administrative support such as photocopying, typing, and filing.
Support for the Curriculum:
Guidance: Help students understand instructions and use basic ICT.
Resource Preparation: Assist in preparing and maintaining equipment/resources for classroom activities.
Support for School:
Policy Adherence: Comply with school policies, including child protection, health, safety, and confidentiality.
Inclusion: Ensure all students have equal opportunities for learning and development.
Collaboration: Work with other professionals, attend meetings, and participate in training and development.
Supervision: Assist with supervising students outside of lesson times and accompany them on trips as required.
Person Specification
Qualifications and Experience:
Essential:Experience working with children/young people.
Ability to relate well to children and adults, and work constructively as part of a team.
Desirable:GCSE Maths and English (A* to C) or equivalent qualifications.
Experience within a secondary school setting.
Knowledge, Skills, and Understanding:
Desirable:Familiarity with strategies for supporting students with additional and complex needs.
Understanding of safeguarding principles and promoting student interaction.
Personal Qualities:
Essential:Enthusiasm, commitment, resilience, and stamina.
Ability to inspire and motivate students, maintain high professional standards, and work collaboratively.
Flexibility and adaptability to support a range of student needs.
Additional Requirements:
Essential:Satisfactory Police Check.
Interest in working with children with additional educational and complex needs.
Desirable:Isle of Man Worker status.
