Purpose of the Role:  To enhance the swimming abilities of local children and specialist users through structured lessons aligned with the National Plan for Teaching Swimming. To deliver effective, engaging, and safe swimming sessions as part of the Education & Children Department.

Key Responsibilities  
- Plan and deliver swimming lessons for children and/or adults.
- Develop lesson plans, maintain records, and assess individual progress.
- Organize classes efficiently, ensuring a high standard of teaching.
- Assess and recommend students for appropriate swimming awards.
- Prepare and manage equipment safely and effectively.
- Provide on-the-job training and support for assistant instructors.
- Maintain required documentation, including registers and monitoring records.
- Ensure compliance with health & safety, child protection, and operational procedures.
- Communicate effectively with participants, parents, and colleagues to encourage engagement and provide feedback.
- Participate in ongoing professional development and meet all training requirements.

Essential Skills & Qualifications
- Swim England Level 2 Teaching Swimming Award & Certificate.
- Strong knowledge of swim teaching techniques and health & safety protocols.
- Ability to organize and deliver structured lessons tailored to group or individual needs.
- Strong communication and customer service skills to interact with children, adults, and parents.
- Ability to observe, assess, and record individual progress accurately.
- Friendly, patient, and professional demeanor with the ability to apply procedures firmly and fairly.
- Fitness level sufficient to pass and maintain the Rescue Test for Teachers.
- Availability to work evenings and weekends.
- Satisfactory Enhanced Police Check.

Desirable Skills & Qualifications
- Swim England Level 1 Teaching Certificate or working towards completion.
- Additional swim teaching qualifications (e.g., preschool, aqua aerobics, adult classes).
- Experience working with individuals with disabilities.
- Membership of the Institute of Swimming (IOS) or willingness to obtain within 6 months.
- Knowledge of child protection, equity courses, and inclusive teaching methods
