Main Purpose: Support the Head Chef in preparing, cooking, and serving nutritious meals for care home residents. Ensure food safety, hygiene, and kitchen standards are always met. Step up in the Head Chef's absence.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare and serve up to 3 meals daily, considering dietary needs and allergies.
- Follow all food safety (HACCP), hygiene, and storage guidelines.
- Order and receive stock, manage inventory, and rotate supplies.
- Maintain cleanliness and hygiene of kitchen areas and equipment.
- Work independently, especially when the Head Chef is off duty.
- Keep records and complete audits as required.
- Ensure kitchen health & safety regulations are followed.
- Be flexible to work varied shifts, including weekends and holidays.
Essential Skills & Qualifications:
- Level 2 Catering qualification (or willing to complete within 2 years)
- Food Hygiene Level 3 (or willingness to obtain)
- Experience in a commercial kitchen
- Knowledge of food safety, allergies, dietary requirements, HACCP
- Able to manage kitchen in Head Chef’s absence
- Good English communication skills
- Strong teamwork and time management
- Reliable, self-motivated, and flexible
- Satisfactory Police Check and physically able to perform role
- Willing to work across multiple sites
Desirable Skills:
- Isle of Man Worker status
- IT skills for data entry and stock management
- Knowledge of COSHH and Health & Safety regulations
- Experience with special diets (e.g., gluten-free, nut-free)
- Ability to adapt menus and manage stock shortages
