Job Purpose: To support the Commercial Division within the Attorney General’s Chambers by providing administrative support, mainly to the Property Team, helping deliver property and commercial legal work across Isle of Man Government.
You will be part of a small, friendly team and gain hands-on experience in property matters such as conveyancing, leases, licences and land registration, while working with colleagues across Government and external Advocates.
Duties:
- Take instructions from Government Departments and statutory boards.
- Manage your own allocated case load of property and commercial matters under supervision.
- Draft property legal documents including agreements for sale, conveyances, transfer forms, leases and licences.
- Prepare and submit Land or Deeds Registry applications and deal with related queries.
- Carry out property and title searches using relevant registries and upload results to the Legal Case Management System (LCMS).
- Support grants and loans work, including preparing financial documentation and registered charge paperwork.
- Assist with residential conveyancing matters to develop your skills.
- Prepare commercial contract documents using standard templates and assist Legal Officers with correspondence.
- Maintain and update case files using the LCMS, including file opening, closing, archiving and reporting.
- Monitor shared inboxes, manage post, filing, photocopying and general office tasks.
- Provide cover for other administrative or paralegal staff when required.
Essential Skills
- 5 GCSEs at grade C (4) or above including English Language (or equivalent).
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Confident, professional and customer-focused approach.
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel.
- Well organised and able to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Able to make considered decisions and think critically.
- Positive team player who is trustworthy and reliable.
- Willingness to learn and develop new skills.
- Must be able to work effectively in a team environment.
- Satisfactory Police Check.
Desirable skills
- Experience working in an office-based legal or property environment.
- Experience dealing with property transactions.
- Ability to quickly understand and work with technical information.
- Self-motivated and keen to improve and grow.
- Encourages new ideas and supports change.
- Isle of Man Worker status.
